The extensive footprint, high reliability, security and broad eco-system support of LTE and GSM networks provides an ideal platform for IoT growth. But, device battery life has limited the potential for large-scale adoption across a variety of IoT use cases. This challenge is particularly relevant to IoT use cases such as Smart Buildings, Transport logistics, tracking and fleet management, Smart Meters and even Smart Agriculture. In this live demo, Ericsson shows how a new mobile network software feature, known as network Power Saving Mode (PSM), supports improved IoT device battery life to +10 years.
